About the Quartet

The Pegasus String Quartet, a UCF graduate string quartet led by Ayako Yonetani, will make its debut at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts during UCF Celebrates the Arts 2021. The members of the string quartet were recruited nationally on graduate assistantships and a competitive stipend. The current graduate students who were selected all came from out of state. The current members of the quartet are Abigail Moore, violin, Adrienne Bythwood, viola, and Zachary Larson, cello.

The Pegasus String Quartet will present a monumental work of the Debussy String Quartet, the popular Andante cantabile movement from the Tchaikovsky String Quartet and other quartets.

Abigail Moore, Violin
From Chesapeake, Virginia, violinist Abigail Moore is a recent graduate of the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) where she received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance and Bachelor of Arts in Music History. In the fall of 2020, Moore began her studies at the University of Central Florida to pursue her Master of Arts in Chamber Music. She is a current student of Dr. Ayako Yonetani and performs with the Pegasus String Quartet. In addition to her chamber experience, Moore is also an avid orchestral player and has performed with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and Virginia Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, she is a Chesapeake Fine Arts Competition winner and received third place in the Instrumental Concerto Competition at UNI. Moore also enjoys studio recording for various projects and has previously recorded on violin, viola and vocals. In the future, Moore aspires to hold a permanent position in an orchestra, continue performing in chamber settings and have a modest private studio.

Adrienne Bythwood, Viola
Adrienne Bythwood was born in Miami, Florida and moved to Marietta, Georgia at the age of ten. The following year, she began playing violin in her middle school program at age eleven. Adrienne continued playing through high school and at fifteen years old, she picked up viola as well. By the time she graduated high school, Adrienne was accepted into Kennesaw State University and was intending on studying violin with one of the violin professors. However, things changed and she transferred to Georgia State University in 2015 to pursue a degree in viola performance where she ended up graduating in 2019. Adrienne will graduate in May 2021 with a Master of Arts from the University of Central Florida.

Zachary Larson, Cello
Zach Larson is a master’s candidate at the University of Central Florida, where he is the cellist of the newly-formed UCF Pegasus String Quartet and a private student of David Bjella. Mr. Larson just recently completed his BM in cello and tuba performance from Boston University in the spring of 2019.

Dr. Ayako Yonetani
Dr. Ayako Yonetani leads and teaches the Pegasus String Quartet. Dr. Yonetani received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from The Juilliard School where she studied with Hyo Kang and the late Dorothy DeLay, world-renowned violin pedagogue, who taught such artists as Perlman, Midori, Cho-Liang Lin, Gil Shaham and Sarah Chang. She assisted the late Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard pre-college division and at the Aspen Music Festival and School before she came to the University of Central Florida.
