“Without Borders” features painting, video, sound, sculpture, photography, and performance art by artists from diverse cultural and ideological backgrounds. This show explores themes of identity, perception, blackness, feminism, gender roles, and interactivity. “Without Borders” is a statement of our unique perspectives.

Featured works include:

Seeking Ka, by Marlenys Rojas-Reid, is a series of layered paintings on transparencies. Made with energetic strokes of bold colors, the layers cast shadows that are integral to the work. The layering technique encourages the viewer to look past the surface and find the shadow, or soul, of the artist.

Just A Minute, by Tim Reid, is a two-and-a-half-minute video that takes you through an exasperating sequence of clocks and timers marking time. Sounds and images take you to an ominous end…or beginning.

Featured artists include Chealsea Anagnoson, Miloš Ajdinović, Yson Lorane Dickerson, Forrest DeBlois, Juliet R DiIenno, Mark Gerstein, Ryan Michael Gleason, Jared Justice, Nick Kalema, Lana Lasher, Theresa Lucey, Rama Masri Zada, Diane Parks, Marlenys Rojas Reid, Tim Reid, Christopher Santos, Michael Smart, Ericka Sobrack, Mauro Wieser, Sean VanZyl

The Gallery at Avalon Island is a contemporary art space that hosts exhibitions for established artists, located at 39 S. Magnolia Avenue in downtown Orlando.
